Chief Complaint: Your friend is stressed-out & sleep deprived.
Upon further examination: So, you have a medical student friend who wants a study partner, and they approach you because they lack the motivation to study by themselves. You invite your friend to the library, and what happens? Your friend is laughing at some YouTube video, talking to the person next to them, or tapping away at their phone, texting people. Then, when it comes to the last 2-3 days before the block of exams, your friend is extremely stressed out, rebounding off the walls, trying to find ways to memorize and understand all the material on the upcoming four exams. They are sleep deprived, cranky, and most of all, bother everyone around them for notes and study materials.
Differential Diagnosis: Family problems, ADHD, Boredom, Procrastination, Overconfidence, Intentionally annoying.
Most likely diagnosis: Procrastination with a more-than-likely complication of Common Sense deficiency.
iReason Rx: 200mg of Common Sense (CS) by a knock to the head, for both you and your friend.
Usage Instructions:
To the friend: Change your habits. Start studying everyday, at least covering that day’s lecture material. You will find that sometimes even this is not possible, because there’s so much. That’s more reason to start studying everyday! Turn off the phone – you are in a library. Why else would you go there, but to study? Need motivation for studying? Just open your books and start reading. You’ll see how much you have to master in a such a short time period.
To you: Get a new friend. Or, study alone.
Possible Side-effects:
For your friend: Your friends may stop hating you for bugging them for notes. You may also find yourself growing up and taking some responsibility.
For you: You will get more work done.
Additional notes: If problems persist, email ireason9@gmail.com for a larger dose of CS.
